We
started in 1994 with a vision of keeping livestock that are
hardy, profitable and pleasing to the eye. The Highland cattle breed has
surpassed our expectations in all these areas. We raise registered
breeding stock and quality beef.
We enjoy showing our
livestock in the Northwest region and Nationally. Years of
careful selection has taught us much. The genetics we use are very
diverse. Currently we have females sired by
these bulls:
Basswood of
Swains GBB1B 7185 CA
Ben Eniglair of Scone
Palace
CH
Aloysius 39178
DH Churchill
(AI) 27914
EZ Acres
Nathaniel 26710
Magnum
of Five Star Farm 37588
Raindancer
of Five Star Farm 40675
Sherman of
Five Star Farm (AI)
Select daughters from these bulls will be
artificially inseminated using genetics from leading bulls. Check out the A.I.
page on our site for photos and pedigrees on these bulls. Other
outstanding cows in the herd will be pasture bred to our current
herd sire, Raindancer of Five Star Farm, (2005 National Reserve Grand
Champion Bull).
To produce the "perfect cow" is motivation for many breeders. We
start from the ground up, literally. A Highland cow needs good feet and
correct legs to carry her throughout her life. We place emphasis on great udders, when udders go, so does the cow.
Soundness of structure and growth is necessary. To reach
adequate weight in a timely manner greatly increases profitability.
Disposition is very important to us, we have a reputation of
having some of the most docile Highlands in the Northwest. Lots of breed
character improves the overall visual appeal of the Highland cattle.
Our breeding program continues to improve each year.
The very best females (those that consistently produce better than themselves), are mated
to genetically superior bulls. This program has
helped us realize our goal of consistently producing desirable breeding
stock.
The product of our breeding program has found favor with many judges over
the years resulting in show success such as: National Grand Champion
Female, National Grand Champion Bull, three National Reserve Grand Champion Bulls, also National Get of
Sire and Produce of Dam winners.
